1 part 1
We were supposed to choose two drama series either two from
soap operas or two from situation comedies and write a compare or contrast
drama genre. The learning outcome for this assignment is to demonstrate the
understanding of the television series genre chosen. Besides that, this
assignment is given to demonstrate our ability to compare or contrast the two
television series and analyze the information from it, also to communicate
relevant ideas in clear, logical and appropriate academic English. I chose to
write about a contrast essay for two soap operas which is ‘Gossip Girls’ and
‘Desperate Housewives’. After completing
this assignment, I not only understand and learn to express my ideas into the
correct way through academic writing, I also understand the television series
that I have chosen more. Besides that, I learn to write my contrast essay in
proper format and the citations for the research on some relevant information
for the chosen soap operas. However, I still need to improve on my academic writing
skills as it has not met the requirement.
Assignment
Part 2
We were assigned to go visit an art gallery and write a
compare and contrast essay on a two painting chosen inside the gallery. The
learning outcome for this assignment was to demonstrate the ability to compare
and contrast between two paintings, analyze and synthesize information about
the two chosen in a longer essay and explain them clearly and logically. This
assignment also given to demonstrate our ability to ‘read’ the painting correctly
and communicate our ideas into proper academic writing. This is an group
assignment, I was in the same group with Yoke Lin, we c=visited our gallery
full of water colour paintings which mostly are half done. We have to do some
background research on the artist and some researches on water colour
paintings. After we are done with this assignment, I have a better
understanding on water colour paintings and learned some new techniques. I also
learned to ‘read’ paintings better and observed them clearly and deeper.
Nevertheless, I am able to communicate my understandings of the paintings into
proper academic writing,

In a group of 4 people, we are to do some research on a site
that we have visited. The learning outcome for this assignment is to use
appropriate methodology in obtaining primary and secondary information related
to the chosen question. Besides that, this assignment was given to understand
the basics steps involved in preparing an academic research report and apply
APA style citation accurately and effectively in the research report and also
presenting our findings of our research in a formal presentation. I and my
group mates did a research on Hainanese Chicken Rice restaurants. We did
interviews on two chosen restaurants and tasted their food before proceeding
with our compare and contrast academic writing essay. We had a better
understanding on Hainanese chicken rice after doing some researches on it.
Besides that, we also notice that even though it is the same cuisine from different
restaurant, the taste of its cuisine will still be different. We also learned
to write an approximately 3000 words long report base on what we have done our
research on. I also learned to present what I have gained from the assignment
in front of the class but I know I still have some improvement that can be
done.
